These shacks have been in the Wilbinga area for the best part of 50 years with at least 3-4 generations of families coming here for recreational purposes.
These guys have been the unofficial
watch dogs of the area for half a century now. So there is indeed a real level
of heritage that now needs to be maintained with the shacks. They are a part of
Western Australian history and they are a significant coastal icon as they are
the last beach shacks closest to the Metropolitan area still standing after the
Pinnaroo Point shacks were ripped down by developers many years ago.
These shacks have been rampaged,
broken into, weather beaten and burnt down, but the passion of the Wilbinga 4x4
Shacks Crew to keep them all erect is something that has to be admired. These
guys just keep rebuilding them no matter what happens.
So please support these guys in doing
what they’ve been doing for many, many years and look after this awesome
coastal area, it’s the only one we have left that is still a day’s drive north of
Perth.
If some members of general public continue to
abuse this area by littering and inappropriate behaviour, we will ALL lose access
and we will compromise these guys from maintaining these shacks and the area
they have adopted.
Please Tread lightly in Wilbinga!
